Guidelines for Pastor

Republic First Baptist is prayerfully seeking a called and qualified man to serve as our next pastor. This page outlines the role, responsibilities, and expectations for the position.

Republic First Baptist Church exists to make disciples who love God, love others, and live on mission. We are a community rooted in Scripture, cooperating faithfully with the Southern Baptist Convention, and committed to reaching our neighbors and community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

THE POSITION

Roles & Responsibilities


The pastor shall serve as the under-shepherd of the church, as contemplated in the New Testament. He shall serve as moderator of the church and as an ex-officio member of all church committees.

Great Commission Leadership

As under-shepherd, the pastor, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, shall seek earnestly to lead the church in fulfilling her commitment to the Great Commission, and in cooperating with the programs and ministries of the Greene County Baptist Association, the Missouri Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Lord's Supper

He shall see that the ordinance of the Lord's Supper is observed at least once each quarter and shall oversee the conduct of this service.

Office Hours & Administration

The pastor shall maintain office hours sufficient for personal study, meditation, sermon preparation, and church administration.

Revival Meeting

The pastor shall have the privilege of conducting one revival meeting away from the church each year, during which he may be absent from his pulpit for no more than one Sunday.

Pastoral Care

His pastoral duties shall also include visiting the sick and shut-ins, seeking and winning the lost to Christ, conducting weddings and funerals, and performing other pastoral responsibilities as the needs of the church may require from time to time.

Weeks of Paid Vacation

During vacation and church-approved ministry activities, the church shall arrange and compensate pulpit supply.

When any holiday falls on a day requiring pastoral leadership of a worship service, a mutually agreed upon substitute day shall be granted in lieu of that holiday.

Additional

Expense Reimbursement: Reasonable ministry-related expenses incurred in the fulfillment of pastoral duties may be reimbursed in accordance with church policy and the approved annual budget.

Absence: During the pastor's absence for a revival meeting, the pastor shall arrange and provide compensation for pulpit supply. During absences due to vacation or church-approved ministry activities, the church shall arrange and compensate pulpit supply.

Compensation: The pastor shall initially serve in a bi-vocational capacity, with the opportunity to transition to a full-time role as the Lord provides growth and the church's financial resources allow. Compensation shall be based upon the pastor's experience and the approved church budget.

Qualifications


Doctrinal & Membership Requirements

The pastor must be a member in good standing of a Southern Baptist church cooperating with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Missouri Baptist Convention, and the local association. He must be known to be in doctrinal agreement with these bodies, must faithfully preach and teach the Bible, and shall lead the church in remaining true to the teachings of the Baptist Faith and Message.

THE CALLING

Terms of Service


The pastor shall be called for an indefinite period of service. Should the church desire to terminate the pastoral relationship, the church shall provide the pastor four (4) weeks' notice prior to termination. Should the pastor desire to terminate his relationship with the church, he shall give the church reasonable notice, not to exceed four (4) weeks, prior to his departure. If it is agreeable to both the church and the pastor, the church may terminate the relationship immediately by providing the pastor with his full salary and benefits for the four-week notice period.
